Basantapur delight

On the busy streets of New Road, if you walk a few hundred meters ahead, you reach Basantapur; one of the core attractions of Kathmandu valley. With children running around and friends having tea on the pavements of the local tea shops to couples sitting on the pavement, this place just gives you good vibes. From the famous tea shops to fancy restaurants, needless to say, Basantapur holds something for everyone.

One of the main aspects of why people are attracted to this part of the city lies in its architecture, which makes it feel like we have traveled back in time to the medieval period. This is a different world all on its own. You should surely visit this place to gain a taste of the culture of Nepal as well as its food. From Continental to the typical Nepali dishes, you get whatever you name!

For a quick bite, you can get a lot of things for a cheap price. One of my favorites is Sekuwa. As you walk a few steps ahead of the Kumari ghar, the aroma of the burning meat and wood builds up the anticipation of biting into the juicy bundle of flavors. For those of you who may not know of the term "Sekuwa", I'd like to explain. It is meat roasted on firewood in the traditional Nepali style. The meat is initially left to marinate with spices and herbs and then it is cooked. It does not have to be limited to one type of meat as it can be made from pork, chicken, lamb and much more. Every bite gives a spicy kick and the juiciness is beyond compare. You may have to spend some time chewing this whole thing but for the taste, it's totally worth it. For this tasty dish, all you have to pay is Rupees 40, for which you get the Sekuwa in a set along with puffed rice and lemon. You can also have it served separately. I think this is an icing on the proverbial cake since you won't have to pay much and as an added bonus (Think: The cherry on top of the cake), it gets ready in minutes!
